New Ducati Logo
The second quarter results have trickled in this past week and Ducati claims to have made a killing in the first half of 2011. The MIC reports overall motorcycle sales at a 1.7% increase from 2010, but Ducati North America has bettered that stagnant rate with its announcement of a jaw-dropping 63% sales increase for the first half of 2011. Details in the press release below, courtesy of Ducati NA. - MCUSA ed

Ducati North America announces today an excellent close to the second quarter of 2011; with sales up 61% for the quarter and Year-to-Date sales up 63% over the first half of 2010.

2011 sales have been exceptional in the US, Canadian and Mexican markets; with total North American growth surpassing the 60% mark in the first half of the year. Over 5200 bikes were registered in the first two quarters, and Ducati plans to continue posting strong sales figures as the year continues.

This year’s sales growth has been realized across the entire model lineup, with several particular models proving to be an outstanding success. The game-changing Multistrada 1200 continues its strong sales momentum, soon to be joined by the new Multistrada 1200 S Pikes Peak Special Edition. The newly-released Diavel has also proven a strong seller, joining the 848EVO Superbike and Monster 796 as top sellers in Ducati’s lineup.

‘We are very satisfied with our half year results, which are an exceptional growth over 2010,” said Cristiano Silei, CEO of Ducati North America. “We are extremely excited about our potential for the rest of 2011 with the Monster 1100EVO joining our formidable product line-up as summer hits full swing. In light of this continued success we will be strengthening our organization for the 2012 model year.”

The internet, where everyone can play off their mistakes as intentional.

I never have, but my fanboys do it for me so it's all the same thing. I understand completely, and yet long for imperfection.

I've really wanted a motorcycle, so I think I'll buy this company.

Ducati's sales figures are looking up and they are doing better than the industry as a whole (at least they were last year when they were talking about doing an IPO on the Chinese stock exchange), but bikes in general are not. Sales have taken a beating over the past few years and global sales figures today are about half of what they were just a few years ago.

Last thing I remember reading about them was that scooters and tiny bikes were increasing sales, but bikes with big engines were having problems.

Harley seems to be doing well however if I recall correctly, not sure about Triumph or BMW.

I don't ride anymore, can't really, but I still like to read about bikes and have a couple of friends who are totally addicted to bikes and everything about them.

Ducati is such a great, iconic brand. Hopefully they land in good hands.

I am about ready to hang up my riding gear and sell my bike. I dont ride nearly enough and it seems silly, but the main reason is because of the way the roads are these days. Just way too many people driving around with their heads up their asses as they talk on the phone. Dont want to leave my son without a father, or a father that is in a wheel chair.

I could buy myself a really nice 2 person pontoon boat instead. Anyone want to buy a nice Triumph?
