Last week I had a salesperson at radio shack ask me 3 times if I wanted a $1 warranty on an $8 cable. After 2 polite no replies I told him "I don't want your fking warranty, do you want to sell me the cable or not?" He never said another word.

I see what your trouble is.

You're just not vindictive enough.

Maybe. When someone crosses that threshold with me I just totally disengage with them. And it's forever. I think some things should just be part of common sense with all normal people.

I also don't like when someone, such as a car salesman, tells you their lowest price. Then when you decide not to buy they want to lower it again. I know that's the game. But I don't like that game. And I don't like someone trying to sell me a warranty. Such as for a DVD player. They try to sell a warranty to make more. I will always get pissed and tell them no. Do you sell poor quality products on purpose?

A lot of it is recognizing it as a game, and enjoying it for what it is.

When someone tries to sell me an extended warranty, I tell them that I'll buy it if they sell it to me for 20% of the price they've quoted me.

They never do, but that way you get THEM to say "no" instead of you. "I'd love to have the protection you're offering, but it's only really worth XX to me, so if you'll sell it at that price, I'll take it, otherwise, just ring me up."

I posted about this awhile ago, but I got an email from a dealership wanting to "buy" my car. I took it in for them to appraise because what was the harm in it? The guy acted impressed with the condition of the car and gave me a really low ball quote. Of course I declined, and I told him what I wanted for it. He went and spoke to his boss and offered me the price I stated but only for a trade-in. So I told them about the car I am looking at (Mazda CX9) and they said they had a similar vehicle (Mitzubishi Outlander) that was "way better" than a CX-9. So I sat there while they tried to sell me this car nodding and smiling the whole time. I kept saying "no, we like the cx9". An hour or so later they said they could try to locate a used cx9 and contact me as soon as they do. In the mean time I had to promise I would research the outlander (which I did, and like I suspected, it was crap). They said they would contact me in the next few days, but they never did and a couple days later we went to Oregon and bought the car we wanted.
