Bought a $350 recliner from Costco about 3 weeks ago. Love it.
I walked through the Lazy-boy showroom and didn't find anything comparable to it for under $700.

Interesting. We were at a Costco last night. Didn't pay any attention to recliners. Perhaps I should go look again today. My biggest problem is finding one where my feet and ankles don't hand off the end. I'm not as tall as you but I have very long legs. And it is good for your legs?

We bought a really nice one 12 years ago for about $300...still have it. My favorite chair in the house. $800 I can't fathom. I think we spent that on our sectional AND ottoman.

I have been trying to get a recliner for a few years now. The wife doesnt think it goes in the living room. Granted, we dont have a lot of room left for one. The only one i want is a Stressless by Ekornes. It is very hard to justify $1500 on a recliner though. So, not so stupid in comparison.

We have 2 in the living room. She wants one in the bedroom. I broke my back in 84 and it's terrible. If I am in bed all night my back hurts all day. I can sleep in bed maybe 3 hours then go to the recliner for the rest of the night and it's good. But she would like to have the living room at night and if we had one in the bedroom I also have my CPAP in there as well. Though when I sleep in a recliner I don't sleep so really don't need it. My shoulders are both bad too so I can only sleep on my back. Which is bad for me to do.
