I want to make some wrist warmers for next winter. One of my besties (and she's my yarn-buddy!) has kindly gifted me some stunning merino wool, which would be perfect as its nice and soft and silky, so its not going to be super itchy. Well every pattern we looked at for crochet was just kind of "meh", so she offered to teach me how to knit so i can make these:

HOWEVER. Oh my god, knitting is difficult. Or maybe im just not cut out for it or something, for starters it feels weird to work without a hook, the yarn keeps slipping off the end of the knitting needle; the stitches feel really awkward and in general it just feels funky to me.

Those of you that knit, did any of you start with crochet first and then go to knitting? If so, did you have problems with the transition?

Slimmer fingers might help.

Beats me.

I've only tried to wear heals once, can't see how women can walk in them.

About 25 years ago, I met this woman at work who knitted every night, all night, as she answered the phones and did her part to keep our company profitable. I unloaded the trucks and envied her position and wished I had a job where I could sit on my ass and talk, and knit, and get paid for it.

Anyway, I knew how to crochet, I had learned from my mom. I made an afghan and some pot holders. I figured I could nail this "talk on the phone" chick if I showed her my leet crocheting skill. So I made her a hat.

It was the coolest hat ever, sorta round and fluffy, kinda like a fez but more awesome and stuff.

She took one look at it and told me.....You need to learn how to knit. I, or course, agreed, and spent the next couple of monthhs taking lessons from her.

I never could figure out how to make a hat while knitting, she quit to work at some other job and left me both still wanting to nail her (never did) and wishing I could knit (still cant). Damnit.

She would probably have been knitting you a ball warmer while you were pounding her. She was that good.

I can't even hand sew a patch on a pair of pants, no less knit anything.
