I have an Omnitech, which is hackable and that's why I bought it, I can put whatever software I want on it.

however, I've been using a free app on my phone called Waze that is user driven, people send in real time reports so you get reports on traffic in your area, as well as info on routes to take.

I got a TomTom xl350 from best buy for $129

It's small (should fit into my clear top pouch on my BMW tank bag), and has lifetime updates for map and traffic, looks like I am downloading some sort of red light camera app now.

It gets put to the test tomorrow in Kauai.

I had a $300 Garmin. Then I got a Droid X phone, with Google Navigation.

The Garmin hasn't left my glovebox since. Not only are the GPS devices in phones just as good as the ones in standalone-GPS-devices, but they also update their maps automotically (unlike Garmins, where they charge you like $100 for a new map or something outrageous). And, it's your phone - you have it in your pocket anyways and if you're worried about batteries then just use your car charger.

I even have a navi holder that adjusts down to the size of my phone, I think it cost $6 from this place called "the mount guys". (yes, I giggle at the name like a 12 year old.) it pinches onto the air vent so it's out of the field of view enough to not be dangerous or distracting.... and if a cop sees me poking around on it, he thinks its a navi, not my phone.

This is the same model I have. Just as a FYI there is a way to change the voice on the unit to George Bush that is effing hilarious. Mispronounces everything, says all kinds of dumb things.
