They had a new commercial on here that is basically a big whine about trusting stranger's reviews and how they came up with the idea of business ratings.
But that's exactly what the BBB does, except they only accept complaints that I know of, not recommendations other than being accredited by the BBB.

Don't you have to pay to use that service as well where BBB is free?
I remember when it first came out a few years ago they wanted me to pay money to even look at reviews.

The BBB has become a total sham. Pay x to get a y or better rating. Address a few minor complaints to get upgraded. I'll take the collective opinions of my peers over any one source these days.

The BBB is one big scam, bordering on extortion, sadly businesses really have no choice but to comply unless they are willing to lose the money in lost business.

They have a point, but it's not in their favor either.
BBB charges companies to be part of it, then they do everything in their power to keep from listing any complaints about one of the businesses that pays them to be part of it. Ooops.
Angie's List is totally getting gamed these days. There are companies you can do business with that will create numerous fake "verifiable" online persona, complete with contact info, track down every mention of your company online and submit wonderful reviews about your company to the site that is mentioning it....including Angie's List. Which pretty much means any and all the reviews there might be totally full of crap.

any glowing review of any business is always suspect. Same with Yelp etc.

It is difficult to unsubscribe to Angie's List...much more so than subscribing. An e-mail will not do. You need to jump thru hoops, call and then get a physical address to send a letter. Truly...

Agreed on all points. This is the problem with all online product and service ratings - I see it with pretty much everything I order online - obvious shills pushing a product or slamming a competing product... very lame.
Of course the BBB is a giant collection of douchey uselessness too.

I paid for a heavily-discounted year of Angie's List a long time ago and never renewed it.
They've been in my face about it ever since. Major PITA.
