they take a different feeling to them when you are on vacation as apposed to being there for work
usually you will have family there to make it more enjoyable as well

That they do, and agreed on the last part except I would substitute friends in for family. Work is way more exciting than coming back to the hotel.

I know your pain... 230ish days a year in a hotel room for work.... it sucks, and not in a good way.
