You guess they can? It's actually very well known.

parrots will have 1 mate for life, and will bond with a human if that mate is not available.

I had a quaker. Awesome bird with a huge vocabulary and personality. Sadly he died young, bad breeders.

my brother had birds

He had a great bond with one he named Samson.
Taught him to talk and everything.
Samson loved cheerios ceral.

I remember that bird going to the floor sometimes. Dunno why tho, maybe just wanted his feet on the ground sometimes.

Our cousin has a grey parrot that talks like a trucker. (my oh my does he curse)

This one doesn't have that big of a vocabulary yet and he doesn't speak very clear. But some of the things he says and does is pretty funny. He does have quite the personality. If people come to visit he won't have anything good to do with them if my wife is holding him. He'll bite the crap out of them. I have to hold them so they can rub his head.

Yeah, I am always getting on to my wife for dropping F bombs and other words around him. LOL

is your cage close to the floor or is it on a table/ceiling hook?

do you clip his wings or allow him to fly?

It's on a small table. His wings are clipped. He doesn't jump down when my wife gets him out. When he hops on my finger in the cage he looks as if he's waiting to get out to jump down. Soon as he does he's ready to get right back on my finger and is ok.

Sometimes at night when I got to cover his cage it looks like he's trying to bit me. When he does that I open the cage and let him bite me a few times then he settles down and hops on my finger. I think he realizes he can't scare or hurt me so resigns himself. Of course when I take him out then too he still jumps down. Then I pick him back up and talk to him a few minutes and rub his head then put him back in and cover the cage.

I only have experience with my lovebird, but she has a little ritual she likes to engage in before she comes out of the cage. She'll hop to the back, boss her bell around a bit, then hop back on her perch and wait to step up. I just view it as being one of her things, and to me it sounds like the step on the floor is one of your quaker's things that he likes to do with you.

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, 'Where have I gone wrong?' Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night.'
Elitist.
