at least it wasnt written in Alaska, cause it would be telling you that you could see Russia from Sarah Palin's back yard.

You do know Palin never said that, right? The libtards have been repeating that snl skit for so long that some tards are believing it and i just wanna make sure you know it aint true.

yes I do...but it does sound like something dumb enough for her to really believe and say out loud.

That's not the point, though this is a bit of that transcript:

http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-18563_162-4479062.html

"Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our otherside,
the land-boundary that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don't know, you know … reporters.

Couric: Mocked?

Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.

Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia.
As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border.
It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there, they are right next to our state."

Onslaught your explanation only refers to natural barriers as boundaries. Geography is much more than just physical boundaries, it's also human boundaries. When taking history, culture, language, religion, economy, and politics into account, Russia and Ukraine may well be considered European.

If you follow Slavic history, those physical boundaries contribute a lot to cultural boundaries, for which Russia is definitely culturally different than Europe. Before modern communication and transportation, physical boundaries are what defined a cultural group from another.

My point, entirely, though, is that Russia is on an completely different set of cratons than Europe, and that Europe and Russia were (geologically speaking) only recently accreted.

Your arguement is about as interesting as asking why North America isn't considered to be the same continent as Avalonia...

Even going purely by a physical geographic description, Russian is split in half by the Ural mountain range with one side being in Europe and the other in Asia. With most people in Russia living in the western half any way. And Ukraine being far to the west of the Urals, is there really any physical geographic reason to not include Ukraine and Russia as European?
