I think someone at Disney really likes the Terminator series and the idea that a hero named John Connor saves us all.

when i saw the ad I was like "ANOTHER Terminator movie"

Yes you are insane lol. Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote the Martian Chronicles books a loooooong time ago (he also wrote Tarzan and some other neat stuff) and John Carter is the hero. Also, the story takes place on Mars.
