I just discovered this and it looks pretty slick and easy to DIY. Anyone ever installed either of these types of carpet? What did you think?

Never even heard of carpet tiles, is there supposed to be some advantage to this over wall to wall?

We used to do the carpet with the attached backing in our rent houses. I would not do the carpeted tiles though. All you need is anything to catch the corner then every time it's vacuumed you're in for more trouble. Bottom line, you pretty much get what you pay for. In the house we live in we used the very best padding and middle of the road carpet.

Supposedly easier installation. Just peel and stick.

That's a good point Reap on the tiles. Didn't think of that. We won't be in this house much longer, though, and this is the only room that the carpet needs to be replaced, so I don't really care if it's the best of the best. I'm thinking I'll pass on the tiles and do the attached pad wall-to-wall stuff.

We have some old-ass carpet tiles in this house. I'm not a fan, but maybe they weren't installed properly originally, no idea... I find that even though the cracks/separation between them are almost imperceptible, you do notice when you're vacuuming.

Installation was a piece of cake.

the only advice I can offer is to make sure the carpet matches the drapes.

HORRIBLE to remove i know that!

carpet tiles are easy and unless they are really low rise ones they hide mistakes easy.

one of our rooms had a shag type tile in it...we ripped it out (again THAT SUCKED), and i missed it so much i put some back in once the baby was out of the room.
you would never know it was tile carpet, and i did it quick and at government quality!
