Employers in this state are not allowed to ask your age, if you are married, have a medical condition, are gay, etc and this can all be seen with employers getting your log in. The employer is technically breaking hippa laws, discrimination laws and possibly other laws by seeing your page.
yep if a potential employer knows this info and your in one of those "protected" groups, and dont get hired its a discrimination lawsuit.

It isn't just employers. When you join any college club, sport, or other activity they now have someone whose job it is to keep tabs on social media and you are usually required to either give them login info or "friend" them.
Its insane how anyone gets away with this to begin with.

i don't have a facebook account with my actual name attached to it. so not only would they get jack shit on me if they searched for me, they also would get told to go fk themselves and i'd report that shit to every media outlet i could.

How is this any different than a prospective employer pulling your credit rating?

That would be analogous to the employer searching for you on facebook, not accessing your facebook with your login.
To go with your statement, it would be kinda like the difference between doing a credit check on you and using your credit card to buy stuff.

There isn't a job out there that would be worth me voluntarily handing out a username and password to any social media site.

turned my cynical penis into a happy vagina
Then after an Oatmeal Cranberry and Double Chocolate,
it made my new vagina spontaneously sing the Trolololo Song in an elevator.

It's amazing what people think they can get away with simply because they are thinking of employing someone. Recessions are not only tough on families, they are tough on civil liberty and privacy. Sad thing is, they push this stuff long enough...and everyone just shrugs and says, "whatever" and accepts it.
I'm so glad I'm retired, I'd probably end up murdering everyone in management of any company I applied to that demanded access to my private life in order to be considered for possible employment.
I remember the first time someone said they were going to check my credit rating as a matter of course in the interview process. I laughed at them and they got all glowery and pissy, so I realized they were serious, and I laughed even harder as I walked out, thinking to myself, "what a bunch of idiots, no one is going to allow that".
Here it is 20 years later and almost everyone not only accepts it, they defend it and think it's reasonable. What a load of horse crap. Some of the best employees I ever had got cars repo'd every year or so and couldn't get a credit card to save their lives. Their personal finances were none of my business and had absolutely nothing to do with how they did their jobs, and yes this includes people who dealt with large amounts of cash and accounts receivable and payable. Work and personal life have almost nothing in common. Hell, I had an account manager who got a mink coat repo'd at the office once. That was hilarious. Never knew they would repo a coat, but I guess it did cost more than many cars.....
