I recall when I was quite young my grandma literally threw a temper tantrum when she saw I wrote a lot as alot. The stupid part is I still wrote alot for the longest time

Whenever my kids are doing a writing assignment and use "a lot" I tell them that a lot is where you build a house and then try to get them to use a completely different choice of works such as "many". Alot is not a word.
