I suspect the 3 years is because he killed the dog. I'm an asshole. I think they should be separate sentences so they can tack more on him.

Not a long enough sentence, should have been at least 30 years, 10 for each part. And I hope the owner of the dog sues him for the loss, pain and suffering etc, should be close to a million there to hit him harder with.

considering brit bulldog pup costs on average $1-2K. around here you can buy them for a grand for males and females are $1200 on average.
theoretically he could have been charged with grand theft/larceny.
plus animal cruelty charges.
3 years is a light sentence.
