This time it involves Virginia Rometty, the first female chief executive of IBM. IBM is a major sponsor of Augusta National's Masters Golf Tournament, and up to now its CEOs have always been given membership in the club. But none has ever been a woman. So what happens now -- will Augusta National open its doors to women? Or will IBM pull its sponsorship and force its other executives to resign their club memberships?

Option 3. Augusta goes out and gets a new sponsor with more money. IBM may be a major sponsor but there are plenty of other companies willing to take their place. If their female CEO pulls their sponsorship thus costing IBM millions in advertising revenue and a HUGE negative PR backlash, then I predict IBM will be looking for a new CEO shortly after. If she tries to strong arm the other execs into giving up their memberships, she will have an internal backlash from IBMs board of directors and find herself without a job.
