I've been following Terrafugia for about two years. I have noticed twice now in the last week that news media reported that the Transition has been test flighted ONCE. That is completely wrong. It has been in test flight many times. I don't know if this is simply bad copy editing or something else but the product is much much further along than is being reported. The company received authorization from the DOT last year and has had no major hiccups from the FAA.
It's at the car show for a reason..

I treat my car like crap. Not sure I'd want to tie the stringent maintenance and inspection of a plane with the half-assed way we treat our vehicles. Kind of a cool thought to drive to the local municipal airport, fly to one near your destination, and drive to your final destination in the same vehicle...
Edit:
It reminds me a lot of the Segway. Kind of cool but not really a revolutionary product.

people drive like aholes when they only go forward and reverse.. I can't even imagine how bad it will be if they can go up and down too.

by 2015 the FAA will have to open all commercial airspace to drones.
Right now, drones are limited to low altitudes and military airspace.
I'm sure people won't be driving the cars. We'll be zipping along on radio wave lanes.
