So I haven't bought the expansion yet because I'm going out of town for awhile and am planning on getting it when I get back, once I hit the trial lvl cap will xp earned be saved up and applied once upgraded or does it just disappear?

It wont stockpile..
You can attain 1 exp point less then level 81.
