Every year mom would make a fruitcake. She'd put a lot of stuff in it too.
Then she'd wrap it in foil and stick it in the fridge until about February
when she would throw it away because nobody would eat it.
The fruit she used tasted nasty. It was also as dense as a brick. Denser
maybe, took a good knife just to cut it.

My wife makes a pretty mean fruitcake. But that became ancient history when we discovered these guys:

They're a little family-owned business in the middle of nowhere (Bear Creek, NC). They make the best fruitcake I have ever tasted. Nice & light. Prices are very reasonable. They make a small 8oz cake that makes a good inexpensive gift for friends and extended family.
