Any good adult Mountain Man books?

I remember reading Hatchet and My Side of the Mountain as a kid, and am interested in further reading that doesn't involve a kid protagonist or themes. Self-reliance, survival, and beard on beard sex a must!!
Seriously, anyone have any suggestions? Doesn't have to be American tales but that might help me ease into the genre.
