Good for file storage, not so hot for performance. But unless you're one of those people who thinks they need more performance than they actually do, you'll rarely notice the difference.

There is a HUGE difference between 5900, 7200, 10k and SSD.

To say or think otherwise is absurd.

That's cheap as hell and not a bad drive. Not top of the line in speed, but hell....my computer still has a turbo button on it so not like I'd notice. I'd buy one.

It's probably good for dumping HD movie rips, holiday snaps and other shite on.
As a system drive (=what you keep Winblows&cousins on), to run programs/games from etc, not so much.

Store data on it. Do no load an OS on it.

This. It'll be fine as a data drive. Movies, pics, music...in fact buy two and put them in a RAID mirror if you can afford it. That'll increase your read speeds and give you redundancy should one fail.

Make sure anything you want some speed out of - games, OS, swap files, etc - stays far away from it, though.

7200 is the minimum for speed, and 32-64 mb cache only. Anything less isnt worth it IMO. SSD should only be used for the OS and the top games/applications that you use. The rest toss on your HDD
