Ouch
It sucks to be a seller right now, you are literally at the mercy of buyers.
I just keep telling myself "this is for the next 25 years" as my savings get drained.

There is lots of supply and very little demand out there right now so there is a natural pushback from the pre subprime era when houses were king. It's definitely way worse than the 90s when there was a relative equilibrium and interest rates hovering at around 8 or 9%. Back then you'd basically ask to have safety for structural issues repaired. Now they will ask for everything from repainting to landscaping and other cosmetic stuff just because they can.

You wouldn't have to deal with this had you kept up with the house. I sold a house a year or so ago and the inspector for the buyer sent me an e-mail stating he wished all homeowners took care of their house like I had.
Just out of curiosity, what sort of things were identified?

Sobaki while some of that may be true, a quality home inspector will find things you never even knew about.
The people I bought my home from had lived there 24 years and my inspector was showing them areas of the attic they didn't even realize were accessible.
He also said its an occurrence that happens close to 100% of the time.
Hopefully AT hired his own quality inspector to take a look at his new dwelling, and by quality I mean an Outposter.

Isn't his new dwelling a 100+ year old house?

On some things you can just say "as is", right? If you are charging a fair price and are willing to bluff I suggest you try it.
"Look I realize some of these things need work but what house doesn't? The price is fair and I have other buyers. I'll fix "x" and "y" but the rest of it is as is or I will accept one of the other offers."

This - unless you have no other offers and just need to move it.
