Especially in the earlier tiers, like T3 (the lowest level Klingons can play at).

It's not exactly a five-star game overall. The PvE is repetitive and the ground combat sucks the high hard one. But one thing they got right was to realize that some players are sick of WoW-style PvP where gear >>>>>> skill. (hear that, Rift and SWTOR?) Hopefully GW2 will be the same way, but until then this game gives me my fix.

Sure, purple phasers give you a bonus compared to whites, but the difference is very small compared to WoW. Anyone else still playing? Hit me up @Roachface

I still have my character in The Outpost guild i've been playing a bit. There is a big difference between white and blue/purple gear though especially with the right bonuses on it.

Wow pvp isn't actually all that gear dependent any more now that basic PVP gear is easily available and only 2 tiers behind the best stuff.

It's more pronounced at lvl 50 with MACO gear, but at T3 it's not bad overall. And greens are usually around the same price as whites because greens are not tradable.

There's also a new "duty officer" system that lets you run missions while offline. once in a while they can get you a prize, like a cool blue torp launcher my T3 klingon got.
