I'm heading down to a conference in April and have the choice of flying into either Houston or Austin. Which one is better?


I'll be staying in College Station so if anybody has a good hotel recommend I'd appreciate it.

Will you be spending time in the city you are flying in to? Or you just trying to figure out which city to fly into to get you to College Station?


If you are spending time, go to Austin. Houston is an ok city to live in....but nobody in their right mind would vacation there.


The Austin airport is more convenient than either Houston airport. Flying into Houston will save you 20+ minutes driving round trip.

Austin to College Station is a better drive than Houston to College Station.

Austin has more to do than Houston..I have lived in both. I like Houston better than Austin, but that is mainly cause I dont like smelly hippies.

If in Austin, hang around Lamar or Congress and find some great food in the truck fooderies.

One of the current Top Chef contestants has like 3-4 trucks there...

PLus..if you want to get wasted, no better place than 6th st.

I've heard about 6th st.


Conference is in College station but if the wife comes then we'll spend a couple extra days in Austin I think.
