One of the clubs I belong to has helped the Mythbusters out with some of their rocket related myths but it seems they just don't do safety right so we got this email

We have had several offers from the FAR rosters to help with the MythBusters TV production but the point was never about having the right people it was about safety. We have declined to help them because they want to do it their own way and that seems to be leading to an unpredictable and potentially dangerous result. They may choose to rent our building and bathroom as a staging area for their story which involves firing off of the lakebed but we will not participate in the launch or the engineering of the effect.

I read the other org that posted similar misgivings. And I think ti's about a dorky superiority complex. there is no such thing as enough safety.

The show is more interesting if results are unpredictable.

A couple months ago they accidentally shot a cannon ball through 2 houses and into a car which had been occupied just 2 minutes earlier. That's some television worth watching!

The biggest problem is even if someone from the club tells them not to do something because it is too dangerous and they go ahead and do it, the club and those members will still get sued if something happens just because they were there.

They've been blowing shiat up for literally decades, with remarkably few genuine "oops"es. If they want to do it their way, let 'em, 'cuz they happen to be really really good at it.
