I have not been to Florida in a coons age. However, I heard a documentary while playing Star Wars last night , where the frigging state is covered in 25 foot Burmese Pythons and Howling monkeys. People buy exotic pets and then let go into the wild. One Python killed and swallowed an alligator. Usually the alligator wins. IT sounds all futzed up there.

I believe the pythons are mostly limited to the Everglades (which I suppose is the majority of the land mass of the southern half of the state).

My wife and I were coming back from the Bahamas in spring of '96 when they had that flight that went down in southern Florida.
I remember the rescue operations were a confused nightmare at first, and then altogether cancelled due to search parties being attacked by snakes and gators.
They basically left any survivors to be eaten by predators.
