It always bothered me that the Ferengi pronounced it as "hoo-mahns".

Universal translators can apparently translate everything accent-free except the name of one of the major races. 
Also when a character would suddenly go into anything ceremonial it always was done in their native language. Is there some sort of "formal event" setting on the translator that made it stop working?
