Japan bombed Australia for the first of many times in the war.
More bombs were dropped than on the attack on pearl habour and Almost 100 American sailors and 200-300 Australians were killed. The details are all uncertain because the Australian government of the day didn't let the news get out for fear of a public panic. Some people say up to 1000 people were killed
Darwin could use another bombing these days though, such a hole

It is good to note such a remembrance and for some reason if anyone bombed you today we would throw our entire country and military behind kicking the shit out of them.
