NOLA is one of the very few places every American should visit at least once.
Yup. French quarter specifically.
My wife and I went down there for one helluva weekend back when we were dating a few years back. We've been places like Egypt... Italy... Spain... but NOLA is the one we have the best memories from.
Just a laid-back place that doesn't demand much of you and lets you have fun, if you're not stupid about it.
This is so true.
A few weeks ago we did a plantation tour down river, Laura Plantation is a must see. It was a working plantation, not a showy place. It was a great tour, and our tour guide was wonderful. You could go into the slave quarters, and touch everything. You felt like you were back in time.
We went to Oak Alley after, showy but beautiful. You could not touch anything and the guide just did his rehearsed speech. Laura plantation was much better.

I stole the above from Bonk's facebook, thanks.
