And this morning they are both hurting. My female is limping around and my male's back legs are barely working. Time really caught up to them these past few months. They are 11 this year, I wonder if they will make it to 12.

Always a tough decision... when "enough is enough" for animals we can keep alive but in pain or dysfunction -- well past their intended or natural life span.
And I fail to see what this has to do with goading people about politics.
Unless that was it.

One of our Doxies has developed bad back issues in the last year. We've had to get him to seriously chill when it comes to playing with the puppy, jumping down from the couch, running down steps, etc. - stuff he really loves to do.
When it's time, you'll know. For now, just realize they are senior dogs and treat them accordingly. A walk in the park next time, not a run.

Sorry about your dogs, I know it must be tough. My father in law has always had black labs and we use them for bird hunting. The oldest is almost 12 and has a bad shoulder but it would be a cold day in hell if she ever sat out of a hunt. The vet gave my in-laws pain meds for really bad days (days we hunt) and joint relief stuff for everyday. The hunts are mainly for them anyways, but its very sad seeing her age like that, I can remember hunting over her when she was 3 or 4 and she could hunt all day and still be ready to go.
I am dreading the day my Jack Russell has to leave me, I have had the little guy since I was 19

Fyi, it's safe to give your dogs un-buffered aspirin for general soreness.
Confirm it with your vet if you have to.

I am determined not to be one of the people that goes ten thousand dollars in debt and puts his dogs through surgeries and misery to extend their life another year. But if there are some good ways to keep them comfortable and relatively happy a little while longer I will do that for sure. I started giving them glucosamine and condrointin supplements. It will also help when we move into the new house as they will only have four steps to deal with instead of 20 and the park is two blocks away instead of a car ride that requires hopping in and out.
