I knock them down a level or two. Let them know I'm to be treated as an = or >. I'm a nice and polite person, but if someone comes around acting like an asshole or just seem to demanding I let them see right away I can be the same person.

I make sure I'm just as bossy but 5x as polite. You throw them off when you hit them with manners.
Also, just as a friendly reminder, your cat isn't a person.
