Peter Goodwin, the Portland family-medicine doctor who campaigned for Oregon's Death with Dignity law, died Sunday at his home in Southwest Portland's Terwilliger Plaza. He was 83.
Steve Hopcraft, a spokesman for the organization Compassion & Choices, said Goodwin died less than half an hour after ingesting the drug to cause death, a right granted under the law enacted in 1997.
I guess you can't accuse him of being a hypocrite.

I don't know about killing myself but if I got one of those horribad cancers that have pretty much certain kill rates like GBM or something I think I would at least refuse any sort of treatment

I've got an uncle with ALS. He has been laying in a hospital bed, unable to move anything except his eyes....for 2 years now. Fed through a tube, pissing thru a catheter, breathing via a machine attached thru a hole in his neck....
Doctors gave him a month to live....18 months ago. He just keeps hanging on....
Constant pain, he rolls his eyes up for yes and every time you ask him if he is in pain....he rolls them up so far they almost disappear into nothing but white.
If you tell me that's my future, I'm going to find a nice mountaintop, get a couple of good looking young women to help me get there, spend a day watching them cavort around in skimpy clothing, then have them leave me....and drink a gallon of Jim Beam and eat 30 lortabs. The animals can have whats left.
