Martin has been working on the 6th and 7th books The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. The dude writes so slowly, though, rewriting and revising everything multiple times, I just hope he doesn't croak before he finishes them.

I suggest stopping at book three. Book four was garbage and book five was laughably bad. Neither my wife or I could even finish it. Check out some of the Amazon reviews.
He could finish the series with the next book but instead he's become Robert Jordan and pads every storyline with hundreds of pages of mindless fluff.

Every time he kills off a character, he comes up with 3 new ones and spends 200 pages apiece introducing them.
