Every elite 8 game is a 1 seed vs a 2 seed.
Why are the women so much better seeding than men?

My guess is that women's basketball is very weak and there are huge drop offs in skill level across the schools, so the difference between seeds is dramatic. I've watched a fair amount of regular season games this year and there is just a huge difference in skill level between the teams. It seems like there are only about ten or fifteen competent women's teams and the rest tend to be sucky at best. Although looking at the bracket, there were a lot fewer blowouts than I would have expected.
