Now I'm a socialist, I'm all for the gov spending money on social programs, schools etc..

This blatant misuse of public funds is disgusting.. almost a million dollars and all the knicknack and the idiotic things they bought.

No one is watching and the press in uninterested. The only reason this is getting press is they really screwed up big time. Most are exactly like this but not as high profile.

The word it out on conference. They will now use different words to define their party.

?“Annual meeting.” Using the word “annual” conveys a sense that it’s just a routine event. Nothing to see here, people .?.?.

?“Seminar.” Makes us think of lecture halls and trying to stay awake. So boring, no one will notice.

?“Symposium.” Implies lots of deep thoughts and has a certain air of gravitas about it.

?“Forum.” Sounds Roman, which makes us think of togas, which makes us think of “Animal House.”

Well, maybe avoid “forum,” too.

But this is unavoidable in government agencies, no matter where you're from. And it is one of the biggest threats of any society: the parasitical bureaucrats killing the host.

It's what killed Imperial China. It's what brought down the Soviet Union. The bureaucrats (or Mandarins, or whatever they may be called in a particular society) choke the system until it basically shuts down. They also can set whatever agenda they please and be accountable to nobody. Not the monarchs of Imperial China, not the oligarchy of the Politburo, and not the congressmen of the USA. We liberals may sometimes be happy with the results now but imagine if the bureaucrats were all whackjob evangelicals.

Our GSA is the worst of the worst, but there are plenty more examples to be found. Anyone who's spent time in our armed forces could tell you stories about the bureaucrats of the Pentagon.
