Huh, interesting idea.

But how about expanding the scope of a plugin, call it 'Dyer Maker', and in addition to showing you possible colors, have it show odds of sucessful dye, automatically crush, mix vials, make dye pots and dye the selected pieces the selected color, all with one click of a button!

Doesn't the Dye process involve more than just the cooking skill?

I believe it also involved Alchemy which is a separate process.

I'd say expand the buttons a little farther than that.. maybe have a button to make the "Alchemy" parts, and another button that does the "Cooking" parts.

Those are in addition to the "how would this look" button. (if that is even possible.... I'm sure it is, but I don't know how)

Make It! can create the dyes. High level cooks can dye with 100% results, so I'm not sure about the long term value of that for this single use, but a general chance-of-success calculator added to Make It! would be trivial.

Good points, Drak and Gouru.

Yes, Alchemy is used in the process, I had forgotten that.

The only reason I brought up the point about a skill check, is so some average Joe doesn't go pinking his gear because he doesn't know what the minimum skill levels should be. Perhaps a warning before dyeing, etc. would suffice.

But I do like the OP's idea, and then to have your crafter make up the dye pot from scratch and then dye the piece when you select the color from a 'pre-dye' pic of the piece, would be fun, although not altogether necessary.
