I just started playing again yesterday and had a hell of a time getting Lifetank to run. Kept getting Error 339.
Did a lot of trial and error, finally ran into something that worked for me:

Like i said, may be old news but for new players this may help.

They only hit until you cry
After that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
It's not your business anyway
Just don't ask me how I am

Don't blink, Don't even blink
Blink and you're dead
They are fast, faster than you can believe
Don't turn your back, don't look away
and don't blink.

Howdy this is how you get lifetank to work on 32 bit Vista this is from Lifetank forum
1.) Open a command prompt or cmd)
2.) Type the following commands:
regsvr32 /u /s mswinsck.ocx hit enter then type
regsvr32 /u /s msinet.ocx hit enter done
PS. for 64 bit Vista
