I have found that anything OTHER then AVG won't work with AC.

But, others have had success with Norton, etc., by excluding AC from their anti-virus. I've tried to do that and failed

So, I am using the free version of AVG. I am also running the 64 bit version of Vista, which could be the problem.

Running Avira on 64-bit. No problems.

Well, Avira triggers a pop-up when it updates. This can be annoying, but not a problem as such.

Hmm, interesting.

Might look into that. Hoping to get one with a built in firewall also, not sure about the one that I have (Vista Firewall control)., a program will change and it goes happily along (like when AC get's updated) and does not ask permission to continue.

I use Avira as well. I also use Threatfire ( http://www.threatfire.com ), which I haven't seen mentioned here. Threatfire is designed to run alongside your traditional AV program to provide additional protection.
