This has been asked about a thousand times. Those left developing the game are not willing to take on such a task.
If I recall correctly every single item on a server has a unique number tied to it. If you try and merge one set of data into the other you end up with millions of conflicting numbers.
I would love for it to happen but, it does not appear to be on the radar at all.
