tech help needed... .exe file extension is not associated with anything

I used Kaspersky to get rid of Win 7 Antivirus 2012 from my computer, but now i cant run any programs because keeps asking what program i want to use to open a .exe
I googled the problem, but i could not find a solution for it.
Anyone know a fix for this? I dont want to reinstall windows.

DO EVERYTHING IN SAFE MODE!!!
I used a combination of:
- Hiren Boot disk, using superantispyware.
- malware bytes
- avast
to clean the one I did.
That is a nasty virus, not very destructive, but very invasive and a booger to clean. *But those cleaned it and one other write up on the internet told how to clean that specific one. Google it.

that will free up the .exe (nothing will run) problem and do a cursory clean.
Then followup with the other apps I mentioned above in safe mode. It will take a while to run and clean, worse depending if you have large drives, but it will clean without a format.
Then moving forward, tell yourself or whoever to quit clicking on popups that tell you are infected, you are after you click on it. Better advise is to only use firefox with ad block and no script.
Either way, final step, install Microsoft Security Essentials and run it regularly.
