(CNN) -- A 10-year-old Southern California boy is in a juvenile detention center after denying in court Thursday a charge that he murdered another child, authorities said.
The mother of the alleged victim, Ryan Carter, said on HLN's "Nancy Grace" show that the suspect was her 12-year-old son's "best friend." Lisa Carter, a registered nurse, said that her son died after stepping in front of the 10-year-old as he was trying to stab another child.

So assume that this is a open and shut case. The murderer intended to kill someone, just not the person who put themselves in front of the weapon.
What do you do with this kid ACF?
Me? I don't know. My assumption is that this kid will NEVER feel remorse for this as he isn't developed enough yet.
Punish him? How?
In my estimation, justice is impossible here. Vengeance however is another story. (I'm not suggesting doing that, just acknowledging other possibilities.)

Lock him up till he is 18, evaluate him then. One strike outside after that then death penalty, imo. That is the best I can come up with, this is a tough one.
