WASHINGTON – Republicans are looking to deny child tax credits to illegal immigrants -- refund checks averaging $1,800 -- in an effort that has roused anger among Hispanics and some Democratic lawmakers.

The proposal, which would require people who claim the federal credit to have Social Security numbers to prove they're legal workers, is being offered as a way to help pay for extending the Social Security tax cut for most American wage-earners. It would trim federal spending by about $10 billion over a decade.

Yep, the gop is always quick to snatch money from the have-nots but blind when it comes to cutting defense, corporations, and the rich.

I am sure you agree with that too of course.

What in the flying &$*ck is wrong with these people? They're outraged at the thought of cutting off money to people who aren't supposed to be here? What the hell is next, $1800 checks to people who are here on vacation?

Wait, I thought conservatives were saying last year that illegal immigrants don't pay taxes? How do tax credits help people who don't pay taxes?

EDIT: Nevermind, the article addresses that. Apparently illegal immigrants can file tax returns.

Though it does bring up an interesting point. Should an illegal immigrant with an American child who chooses to file a tax return get tax credits for his or her legal child?

Sure, in the form of a bus ticket back to their country where they can wait until they are cleared to come back legally.

More manufactured "outrage"....over nothing.

The tax credit in question expires this year. It already requires a valid SS number and proof of residency for the child. So the child in question must be a legal US resident.

This isn't EITC (which already bars anyone without a valid SS number (ITIN numbers not accepted), it's a special credit that, like I said, expires this year.

So by the time these yahoos get finished doing anything about this pile of nothing....it wont even fricken exist anymore.
