DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 9, 2012 – Ford Motor Company announced today the election of Jon M. Huntsman Jr. to the company’s Board of Directors effective immediately.

Huntsman, 51, is chairman of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, a Utah-based cancer charity. The former Republican candidate for president of the United States has served in numerous public and private positions around the world, most recently as the United States Ambassador to China.

“Jon brings to Ford’s board of directors extensive global knowledge and experience – particularly in Asia with trade issues – and operational experience gained as governor of Utah, a state that has grown jobs even during the economic crisis,” said Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford. “Jon understands the importance of strengthening the country’s manufacturing base, which will contribute to our success going forward.”

I think so and as a stock holder I certainly hope so. I'm not sure what his specific workload there will involve but with his experiences in Asia I hope it is beneficial.

As long as a Ford is in charge, they are in good hands.

Looks like his presidential campaign using other people's money paid off. That's what guys like him and Newt are after.

It seems like it would be a good move to all involved. He has a history as a competant and conservative manager who isn't prone to lob pr grenades or behave in a manner that might impact negatively on the firm. he has strong ties to both the business co,unity and the political establishment and is well respected in both. It seems like he would be a great catch for any major US manufacturer. Plus he always struck me as the sort of person you probably would not mind working for.

Mostly agree, his in and out political involvement is a little suspect though, at least to me. But what you're saying absolutely worked when they brought Mulally over (from Boeing iirc). He has done wonders for Ford.
