I went to that festival in the late 90's...and not a single tree in the whole city had one god damn blossom on it. Warm spring, blossomed early, I got nuttin....

Ended up OK however, stayed at the Hinkley Hilton, and my then wife and I re-enacted scenes of me being shot (ala Reagan) and her taking care of me the whole weekend.

When we lived in the DC area we went one year and it really was pretty awesome. IIRC they had a kite festival going on at the time too.

Might actually go this year - mainly to see the fireworks.

It's pretty, but I never understood why people travel just to see it.

I was going to say the same thing. I enjoyed the one I went to in Japan far more than the one in DC.

The one i went to in japan unfortunately we were about a week too early. there was one lone tree that was ready, and thousands of ppl trying to get a picture with it I haven't been to one in DC but my neighborhood has its own set of them so i can walk around whenever they are good and enjoy em
