the cliff avril one isn't a full franchise tag...it's a non-exclusive tag...it probably won't matter in the long run...but there is a distinction

The Titans tag kinda makes sense. Finnegan would cost too much to tag, plus he might be disgruntled.
The safety FA market was quite shallow as well as the draft ( no thins Barron will fall to 20). So they can tag griffin and keep a guy who is already familiar with the team, and then hopefully stiffen up the line during the draft. Griffin did play his best year when the titans d-line was stout with haynesworth.
