Leafy greens and potato's? That's 60% of my diet right there.

This is really stupid, trying to get people to read their article by spreading panic. They mentioned with eggs that there have been like 400 cases of contamination in the last 20 years, but they don't mention how many non-contaminated there were.

400 out of 500 is risky, 400 out of 10,000,000 is not risky at all

I think Mexicans are pooping in your leafy greens.

I buy those cheap bags of leafy greens, caesar salad in a bag. I'm gonna start washing them now.

I kinda figured they were pre-washed...

Actually on a serious note, the pre-cut bagged ones are the ones you should be most thorough about washing. Just the fact that they are using knives or other implements creates more cut surfaces ripe for bacteria.

washing half the stuff on that list and cooking some of the rest properly is all that is needed. a few things are unavoidable but most of it is just proper preparation.

i found this related link there too interesting - http://health.yahoo.net/experts/menshealth/5-nutrients-youre-not-getting-enough

i get plenty of everything on that list myself.

You should wash your veggies for dirt, still, most bag lettuce is pre washed after it is chopped, and there is a BIG difference between "risky" and "there is a possible risk."

If you are a company that plans to sell 100,000,000 items, you cannot risk a .5% chance that there is contamination because that means 5000 people might sue you. We are talking about companies that sell far more than that with a far smaller risk. You take a far bigger risk driving every single day, a FAR bigger risk, and you aren't just risking stomach cramps.

I go hiking, yes, I could theoretically get mauled by a bear, cougar or wolf. But I wouldn't call it a risk. If you never washed veggies and never washed your hands unless they touch raw meats, you have a negligible chance of getting sick. If you DO wash your hands and occasionally rinse veggies off, the risk is virtually eliminated
