I was looking for a more modern title and after trying a few games on Steam.. I went to GOG instead.
Master of Magic is probably still the best fantasy based strategy title to this day. Huge maps, huge variety of spells, huge variety of armies. Playing it right now and it is running flawlessly with their dosbox setup.
I missed this game. It also came with some pretty HD wallpapers ^.^

I downloaded and played that for a couple of weeks last year.

MoM is one of the classics. MoO2 (Master of Orion 2) is another one. They've got that one packaged with the first one for like 5 bucks.

Quite possibly the most powerful hero I have ever had in this game. He can travel over any terrain, moves about 8 spaces a turn. Can move all the way to a keep in one move and then on the next move kill everything inside of the keep (90% of the time)... While taking almost no damage. Perfect combo of items/spells on him.

I find older games that you haven't played before are hard to get into. Probably fun once you do though.
